About the role
On behalf of our client, a leading European company pioneering the use of Big Data in genetic analysis, key partner of big hospital chains across Europe (incl. NHS), with HQs in Lausanne and offices in Athens, we are currently looking for a self-motivated and high-reliable C++ Engineer, to join its experienced and skilled team of professionals based in Athens.
Role Summary
The role is based in central Athens, but it is possible to work from home most days of the week. Your focus will be to develop the core Linux back-end technology that gives the company a critical edge over its competitors, both for its performance and the quality of the biological algorithms that they have implemented. You will also be involved in code reviews, discussions on how to architect the system, and working with colleagues who develop the front-end user applications. This role will require you to learn about genetics & DNA -itself a form of coding - and a fascinating high growth medical domain.
- Develop core C++ applications and library for importing and analysing genetic
- data
- Write reusable, testable, and efficient code, including unit & regression tests
- Take full ownership of projects (ranging from a few days to a month) to deliver a working end-to-end implementation, including unit tests & testing
- Collaborate with the rest of the development team
- Optimize & architect company’s platform for maximum speed, high-availability and scalability
- Maintain & improve company’s internal high performance clinical annotation tools and the custom databases
- Integrate data storage solutions such as MariaDB & Redis
- BSc in Computer Science, Maths or any other relevant field
- Minimum 2+ years’ experience in a relevant role
- Experience in the STL containers, lambdas and exceptions
- Solid maths foundation
- Excellent written & oral communication skills in English
Strong Pluses
- Exposure in agile development team
- Knowledge of multi-threading, statistics, genetics, biology or machine learning
- Understanding of fundamental application design principles and object-oriented design, in order to build & maintain a large high-quality code base
- Experience of distributed cloud-based computing and big-data systems
- A keen interest to learn about genetics and become part of a growing new industry
- Strong analytical skills and data-driven thinking
- Strong interpersonal, written, verbal communication skills with an ability to multi-task
